By Air
Martam itself doesn’t have an airport, but the nearest airport is Pakyong Airport (PYG), which is located about 140 kilometers (around 87 miles) from Pelling. Pakyong is a relatively new airport and serves as the main air gateway to Sikkim. Here are some key points about air travel to Pelling: Pakyong Airport: Closest airport to Martam. About a 4–5-hour drive from Pelling. Limited flights are available, mostly from major cities like Kolkata, Delhi, and Guwahati. Bagdogra Airport (IXB): Located around 160 kilometers (approximately 5-6 hours’ drive) from Pelling. This is a more established airport with better connectivity, including flights from many major cities across India. Helicopter Service: There used to be a helicopter service operated by the Sikkim Tourism Department between Bagdogra and Gangtok, the capital of Sikkim. From Gangtok, you can drive to Pelling. Availability is subject to weather conditions and operational status.
By Train
New Jalpaiguri (NJP) Railway Station: This is the major railway station closest to Martam, located about 135 kilometers away. NJP is well-connected with major cities across India.
By Road
Martam to Gangtok: Approximately 20 kilometers (12 miles) via NH10. Martamto Darjeeling: Around 75 kilometers (47 miles) via Peshok Road. Martamto Siliguri: About 130 kilometers (81 miles) via NH10. Martamto Bagdogra: Around 140 kilometers (87 miles) via NH10. These distances can vary slightly depending on the specific route taken and current road conditions.
